Louisiana roof grant costs above $10,000
The grant is capped at $10,000 of construction cost. A roof that meets the IBHS FORTIFIED Home™ standard usually costs more than that. You pay the difference, and you pay the evaluator. Numbers below are from published sources, not quotes from this directory.
What the state measured
The Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s March 7, 2025 report on the program found these medians among participants:
- Median cost to install the roof and pay for the evaluation: $16,229.
- Of that, about $12,981 (80%) was the cost of replacing the roof to the building code.
- About $3,248 (20%) was the added cost of the stronger standard and the evaluator.
- After the $10,000 grant, the median left for the homeowner was $6,229.
- Median annual homeowners premium fell from $5,625 to $4,375, a saving of $1,250 (22%).
Those are medians from people who already went through the program, not a price for your house. Roof size, deck repairs, and material change the bid. Get the bids the roof grant application asks for, from contractors on the state list.

Jefferson Parish gap funding
Jefferson Parish announced a Roof Enhancement Lottery Incentive Fund (RELIF). The parish notice said homeowners who won the state lottery could qualify for up to $5,000 more if the installation cost exceeded $10,000. The council put $500,000 toward the program. The notice said no extra application was required beyond winning and being approved in the state round it was tied to.
That parish notice was posted September 10, 2025 and pointed at a registration deadline of September 12, 2025. The page is now marked archived. An Insurance Journal article on August 20, 2026 described the same program, up to $5,000, and said completion among Jefferson grant recipients rose from 55% to 86% after it launched. Neither source is a promise that funds are open for a future lottery. Ask the parish before you count on the money. The notice lists Councilwoman Jennifer Van Vrancken’s office at (504) 736-6615.

Orleans Parish gap funding
The New Orleans Redevelopment Authority publishes a Fortify NOLA Gap Funding Program for people who already received a state grant, live in the home, and have household income at or below 120% of area median income. The page says households at or below 80% of AMI may qualify for the remaining eligible project cost, up to a full reasonable cost NORA approves. Households from 81% to 120% of AMI may qualify for up to $5,000. A state grant does not automatically qualify you. Awards wait on income documents, the chosen contractor, and a cost review. The same page lists the 2026 New Orleans HUD median family income as $88,600, effective June 1, 2026.
A separate City of New Orleans program, run with Rebuilding Together New Orleans, is not the same gap fund. The city page says eligible Orleans homeowners at or below 80% of AMI (about $65,600 for a family of four, as stated there) may receive up to $35,000 in community development block grant funds. It launched May 31, 2024 and continues while funding lasts. Read that page on its own. Do not add it on top of the NORA gap unless the city says both can be used together. This directory did not find a sentence that stacks them.
