Roof grant application and eligibility
The Louisiana roof grant pays up to $10,000 toward construction that brings an existing primary home’s roof up to the IBHS FORTIFIED Home™ standard. Selection is a lottery. A roof grant application is not a reimbursement for work you already started.
What the program page requires
- The home is your primary residence, and you can show a homestead exemption.
- You have a homeowners policy with wind coverage. If the house is in a FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area, you also need flood insurance.
- New construction, condominiums, and mobile homes are not eligible.
- A foundation of unrestrained stacked masonry or stone is not eligible unless it is retrofitted and approved.
- An evaluator has to find the home in good enough repair to proceed.
- Patching is not enough. If the roof covering is replaced, the whole contiguous covering is replaced.
- The house is in a parish on the list for that round. The current names are below.

The 3-bid rule
Regulation 126 says the homeowner uses the program portal and obtains bids from not less than three approved contractors to bring the roof up to the standard. The commissioner may waive that minimum when fewer contractors are available in the area, or for other good cause. The homeowner rules summary says the same thing in plainer words: bids from at least three approved contractors. The FAQ says you will be asked to submit at least three bids during the grant process.
The published rule is not limited to jobs over a dollar amount. A separate Legislative Auditor review found a median project cost of $16,229, which is why a typical roof grant job is large enough that you will be collecting more than one bid. See the cost page for that figure and its source. Do not hire, and do not let work start, before the program says you are cleared. Grant funds are paid to the contractor after the certificate, not to you up front.

The program page retrieved 2026-11-03 lists the 25 parishes without repeating that partial-parish limit. Still confirm the address on the official map.
